BBB Charity Review Program
The BBB's Charity Review Program evaluates charities in our region using standards involving use of funds, public accountability, solicitation and informational materials, fund raising practices, and governance. The results of the charity evaluations are reported to the public through the Better Business Bureau's website and automated telephone report system. Your voluntary contribution to the Better Business Bureau Consumer Education Fund, Inc. will defray the costs of conducting the Charity Review Program.
Richard E. Akers Ethics in Action Scholarships
Each year, high school seniors throughout this Better Business Bureau's 52-county service area are invited to compete for a college scholarship awarded in memory of Richard E. Akers, late president of the BBB. Reflecting Dick Akers' commitment to ethics, students are asked to submit an essay concerning an ethical dilemma they have dealt with in their own lives. The purpose of the Ethics in Action scholarship program is to foster ethical thinking among young people at a time when they are still forming ethical values. Your voluntary 10% of dues contribution to the Better Business Bureau Consumer Education Fund, Inc. will help the bureau sustain and expand this important scholarship program. Recent business and accounting scandals highlight the importance of the Ethics in Action Scholarship program-ethics is the foundation on which markets and free enterprise are built. (If your business or you individually, want to endow a BBB ethics in Action scholarship in your company or individual name, please contact BBB president Charlie Mattingly at 502-583-1492. What could be a greater legacy than to help the BBB foster ethics in our next generation of business leaders?)
